Hello, and welcome to another edition of The Monitor, WIRED’s pop culture news roundup. Today’s a busy one. In addition to Marvel’s forthcoming Falcon & Winter Soldier series getting John Wick‘s writer, we also have a funny item about the Momo Challenge meme (yes, really) and news about The Suicide Squad. Let’s jump right in.

John Wick‘s Writer Is Heading to Marvel’s Falcon & Winter Soldier

Derek Kolstad, the writer who gave fans the world of John Wick, has a new gig: working for Marvel. Kolstad, according to The Wrap, is joining the writing team for the studio’s upcoming limited series Falcon and Winter Soldier. The show will star Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan as Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes and will air on the forthcoming Disney+ streaming service, which is set to launch in November.

The Momo Meme Is Getting a Momo Movie

Remember the Momo Challenge, that viral hoax that Kim Kardashian helped spread earlier this year? Welp, it’s getting turned into a movie. Orion Pictures is partnering with Vertigo Entertainment to make a horror film about the meme, which is based on an image of a sculpture by Japanese artist Keisuke Aiso. No word yet on when the movie might go into production.

James Holzhauer Is Returning to Jeopardy!

Yesterday, Jeopardy! revealed the lineup for its forthcoming Tournament of Champions. Amongst the champions returning? None other than James Holzhauer, the strategic master who earned $2,464,216 on the show over the course of 33 games and more than 1,100 correct answers. We’re betting he’s going to add to his winnings with this.

Storm Reid Might Be Joining The Suicide Squad

Storm Reid, the star of Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle in Time, is reportedly joining James Gunn’s forthcoming The Suicide Squad. (Don’t let the title fool you; it’s a sequel to 2016’s Suicide Squad.) Reid will reportedly be playing the daughter of Idris Elba’s yet-unidentified character.
